The year of the ram (also known as goat or sheep) begins on Feb. 19. As Asian American communities across California welcome the lunar new year, many turn to the centuries-old tradition of consulting the zodiac, a cycle featuring 12 animals that embody unique personality traits. As the folklore goes, certain animals are better suited for one another while other pairings could lead to conflict.

Year of the Goat/Sheep: Chinese Zodiac Sign for 2015, 1967, 1979, 1991, 2003, 1955, 2027

The Goat comes 8th in the Chinese zodiac. The 12 zodiac animals are: Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog, and Pig.

According to Chinese astrology, each year (starting from Chinese New Year) is associated with an animal sign, occurring in a 12-year cycle. For example 2015 is a year of the Goat.
